Hawaii Blue Skies, Sunshine, Gas Prices Above $4/gallon

While the price of oil climbs above $110 a barrel, many Americans dread the day they will have to pay $4. On the Hawaiian Islands and a few filling stations in California, $4 gas has already arrived, straining the bank accounts of residents and businesses.
Maui is on the verge of becoming the first area in the nation to reach an average of $4 per gallon of regular gas. The average price in Wailuku climbed to $3.934 on Thursday, the highest price in the country. At a number of gas stations, it was just a penny shy of $4. In the more isolated areas like Hana, it had risen to $4.40 a gallon.
The high price of fuel has hurt many families.
"It takes a big toll on us because our housing is high, the cost of food is high, and the gas prices just make it worse," one lady said.
Due to factors which are pretty easy to understand is the most oil-dependent state in the nation, almost all of its energy is imported oil. The state's economy is also vulnerable to international prices for petrol since it is dependent upon airplanes to bring in its tourists and its goods.
Hot off the presses: On Thursday, California hit another record to overtake with the highest average price for gas at a sick $3.609, overtaking ($3.587). Its neck and neck folks and the winner loses big time! Meanwhile, the national average has risen to a record $3.267, according to AAA.
